A whole new form of tablet computing - just add chalk

Clearly, Microsoft hasn't been getting its message across to everyone that mobile working is the way forward.

Turning up to an event at the Queen Elizabeth Hall at London's South Bank complex, one Computing reporter was denied entry - because they were carrying a laptop.

The event? It was a Microsoft UK TechNet session, where chief executive Steve Ballmer was giving the keynote address.

Could it be that Ballmer has been reading recent reports of laptop batteries catching fire? Or was he afraid that someone might accurately record what he actually said?

To be fair to Microsoft, it turned out to be a policy of the venue that the software giant was unaware of. Still, you would expect one of the largest computer companies in the world to perhaps check you could bring computers to one of their events before booking the venue, wouldn’t you?

Slate and chalk, anyone?
